An Inch of Progress
An Inch of Progress
The surest way to fight dismay:
accomplish something every day.
Draw a picture, plan it out
and get back up when tripped by doubt.
Though fears will rise and joints may sprain,
the slightest motion keeps you sane.
When all that happens turns to shit
just forge ahead a little bit
Don’t seek to find a victory
Or aim to alter history
With miles and miles to win the race,
an inch of progress sets the pace
Mistakes you make that bring you shame
are only plays inside a game --
just battles waged within the war,
they’re lessons learned and nothing more
And when ambitions lose their sights
and hurdle you through aimless heights
you may discover “wit” defined
through willingness to change your mind --
an altered course, a firmer ground
the wisdom of a work-around.
a different path, a cause more true:
an evolutionary you.
Find your passion, throw the dice
and wager to your soul’s suffice.
Bet your instincts, don’t retreat
just find a way to move your feet.
Regardless of the path you take
or how you choose to claim your stake,
revisions made, conclusions drawn
no matter what, keep moving on.
